Remembering Toledo's Troopers -Film to tell story of 70's female football team

BY TOM HENRY
BLADE STAFF WRITER

Toledo's largely overlooked connection to the 1970s-era women's movement could be coming to the big screen. One of Hollywood's elite filmmakers - former Toledoan Brett Leonard - is raising money to produce a movie, Perfect Season, that has a plot revolving around the Toledo Troopers. They were a successful team in a women's professional football league that many people never knew existed - or have long forgotten.

Key characters: The two leading roles in the film will be the characters of Bill Stout and star running back Linda Jefferson, who ran for five consecutive 1,000-yard seasons.

Ms. Jefferson's feats are more impressive when one considers women of her era played seasons of eight games or less. NFL teams play 16. She rushed for more than 14 yards a carry several seasons and was so dominant that those who followed her said it seemed like she scored a touchdown one of every three times she got the ball.

Ms. Jefferson, now 59, is one of only four women inducted into the American Football Association's Semipro/Minor League Football Hall of Fame (Class of 2002)

Spring 2013 Semi-Pro Team Survey 100 Teams Polled - Average Game Attendence, Team Travel Miles, Equipment Provided By.....some very interesting data. The results from the recent survey of semipro/minor league football teams conducted by Smyrna Media Group are available upon request.

Long before the organization of National Football as it is known today, local groups throughout the country formed football teams and played teams from neighboring communities. The pride and rivalries developed have carried through to this day in Semi-Pro Football, and with today's ease of travel and communication, has enlarged its landscape to touch almost every segment of North America.

Binghamton, NEW YORK - The American Football Association has reached agreement with Smyrna Media Group to develop an annual Hall of Fame Induction Yearbook. The American Football Association's Semi-Pro Football Hall of Fame has been recognizing individuals whose leadership, performance, and unselfish contributions have forever endeared their fans, family, and former teammates for over 30 years.
