Ice Storm grab win in overtime

COLCHESTER -- Matt Bombardier grabbed a 24-yard touchdown pass from Brad Ruderman on the first drive after the coin toss in overtime to give Vermont Ice Storm a 37-31 victory over Lake City to earn sole possession of first place in the Northern Division of the Empire Football League on Saturday night.

In the second quarter, Ruderman scrambled for five yards for a touchdown. Gavin Battaglia kicked a 30-yard field goal to close the gap at halftime with the Stars leading 14-10.

Jason Young scored on a 15-yard run and a 31-yard touchdown catch. With under a minute left in regulation, Ruderman ran for five yards to tie the game.

Ruderman was 17 of 31 for 322 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He also had two rushes for 10 yards and two touchdowns.

Kevin Fournier (14 tackles), Chris Coppins (15 tackles), Jason Companion (six tackles) and Pierre Cotton (seven tackles) were the defensive standouts for the Storm (5-3). Drew Gordon and Jason Griner each had an interception.

Next up for the Storm is the Watertown Red and Black at Watertown, N.Y., on Saturday.
