Albany Metro Mallers Football team host the defending semi-pro National Champion

For Immediate Release:

On Saturday, August 13, 2005 at 8PM, Albany’s Bleecker Stadium will become the center of  semi-pro football universe as the undefeated and unscored upon Albany Metro Mallers Football team host the defending semi-pro National Champion, Central New York Express from nearby Syracuse.

The Express, from the NYAFL also comes into the game with an unblemished 6-0 record on the 2005 season after posting a Harvest Bowl championship in 2004 enroute to winning the National Football Events Championship in January.

The C-NY offense is led by QB Chris Bresnahan (who signed with the New England Patriots in 1997). He has thrown for over 1200 yards so far this season already passing his numbers from last season. On the ground it’s Chris Beebe that leads the way, averaging 8 yards a carry. Coming off an injury from last season, Beebe was one of the top rushers in 2003 surpassing 2200 yards. The offensive line should also receive some credit for the success of the Express, big up front these guys have been playing together for a while making big holes and giving the QB plenty of time.

The Express Defense is fast and furious. Led up front by veteran DT Scott Irons, this defense has only given up 6 points in the NYAFL. At LB are the Finch twins (Idris & Shondu) who lead the team in tackles. The secondary led by DB T. J. Jackson, is fast and hard-hitting.

It's the goal of the Express to win the NYAFL, the Harvest Bowl Tournament, and then head to Florida to defend their National Championship title.

Meanwhile, here in Albany, The Metro Mallers have exploded from the gate in 2005. going undefeated and unscored upon through the first 5 weeks of the season. Offensively, the team is led by QB Scott Lawson, (Rensselaer HS '80), in his 15th campaign. Lawson has been near perfect this season racking up a an incredible 45 completions on 68 passes for 764 yards 13 touchdowns, and a lone interception. His QB rating is a whopping 137.5. The veteran QB’s favorite target appears to be the entire team as the 45 completions are spread among 10 of his MetroMaller teammates. Add to the aerial attack a running game that includes the Empire Football League’s leading rusher in  Jadel Whitfield, and the EFL most powerful back, Tailback turned Fullback Sylvester Cooperwood. The Dynamic Duo has racked up 645 yards in total offense and 10 touchdowns.

On defense the Metro Mallers express themselves as a team, maintaining a big ZERO on the points allowed. The D is led by Defensive Capt. Jeff Turman, includes the ferocious play of Linebacker Greg Woodward who leads the team with 34 tackles. The Defense has racked up 11 sacks, 4 fumble recoveries and 9 interceptions and have allowed opponents only 311 net yards.

The Metro Mallers goal is to be the roadblock in Central NY's trip to defend their national championship, and hopefully finish the year by bringing the National Trophy home to Albany instead.

Halftime will feature a youth football exhibition by the Albany Pop Warner Football League.
