Dragons return to semi-pro football ranks

From staff reports

Following a two-year absence, the Broome County Dragons semi-pro football team returns to the field this summer.

The Dragons open play in the Empire Football League July 11 at Amsterdam and play the first of five regular-season home games July 25 at Binghamton Alumni Stadium.

The Dragons last played in 2006, when they went 5-5. The team went 6-4 in its inaugural season in 2005. The Empire Football League granted the team a leave of absence in each of the past two seasons.

Karol Cronin is the team's owner, and Binghamton's Kevin Faughnan is the team's general manager.

The team is one of eight playing in the Empire Football League, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary season.
